Lung Cancer Screening
Supervisory role in Miami VA’s initiative to screen veterans for lung cancer using CT scans. The program is a grant recipient from the national VA Lung Precision Oncology Program (LPOP).

Chair, CPR Committee.
Responsible for review, oversight and improvement of all active issues related to cardiopulmonary resuscitation at the Miami VA Medical Center (previously at the West Palm Beach VA until 09/2022) as well as mediating the monthly multidisciplinary meeting.

Miami VA Pulmonary/Critical Care Fellowship and Internal Medicine Residency Program. Responsible for providing didactics in the pulmonary clinic and intensive care unit for medical residents and PCCM fellows.

WPB VA Internal Medicine Residency Program. Responsible for providing didactics in the intensive care unit for housestaff. Over 20 lectures given on topics including acid/base status, shock, sepsis, asthma, COPD, pulmonary HTN, ABG interpretation, ventilator management and respiratory failure.

Holy Cross Internal Medicine Residency Program. Responsible for providing didactics in the intensive care unit for housestaff.

 

International Experience


Dec 2013

Port Au Prince, Haiti. Worked for a week as the most senior pulmonologist and intensivist at the most acute critical care and trauma hospital in Haiti. Assisted with procedures in the ER and with anesthesia in the OR.

Little Havana, Miami. Assistant instructor at a Spanish-speaking boxing gym in Miami. On-site medic for international martial arts tournaments.

Apr 2011

Vera Cruz, Mexico. Rotated for two weeks in inpatient and outpatient pulmonary and the ICU in three major hospitals in Vera Cruz. Provided daily care in a county tuberculosis clinic. Participated in surgical procedures.

Grenada, West Indies. Organized numerous health fairs providing free adult and pediatric services. Operated a hydraulic truck and constructed temporary shelters in a humanitarian effort following Hurricane Ivan.
